04/03/20 MLA Update – Supports for people on assistance and low-income seniors

New emergency supports for the most vulnerable in our community.

I know that this time can be especially stressful for the most vulnerable and at-risk in New Westminster. That’s why today we announced an extra $300 per month for people on income or disability assistance and low-income seniors. This crisis supplement is to ensure that these community members do not encounter additional barriers for the next three months, during the COVID-19 pandemic. These supports include:

👆🏾 $300/month boost to assistance for 3 months for those who don’t qualify for federal emergency supports

👍🏾 Full 3-month exemption of EI & CERB for those that qualify – there won’t be a provincial clawback on federal supports during the COVID-19 Pandemic

🚌 $52 transportation supplement back in cash for those on BC Bus Pass Program
